The Sankofa Trilogy 20th Anniversary Production 2025

The pilot year of the Black Theatre School centred a major creative experiment: reimagining biomyth monodrama as pantodub theatre through the 20th-anniversary restaging of d’bi.young anitafrika’s Sankofa Trilogy. This process explored how biomyth monodrama storytelling could expand into ensemble-driven, dub performance while remaining grounded in embodied practice and political urgency. Running three works in repertory allowed Black Theatre School practitioners to investigate scale, repetition, and transformation—testing how biomyth evolves when carried across African-diaspora storytelling aesthetics of rhythm, movement, masks, and collective ritual performance.
